(sadly, there are no leaves falling from trees at this time by me. so have a picture of the Gryphs involved in this story) Loupe dropped his rake, taking a look towards the pile of leaves. “Hey, Nekyo!! Canonball!” Before anyone could respond, the excitable Tundra Lupine jumped into the red-orange mountain he and his friends had been raking. Leaves flew up into the air, raining down upon both Muffin and Nekyo. The blue Steppe Cat let out a shriek, before looking down at her now dirty paw. “You knew we’d all get dirty doing yard work,” commented Trixie. Muffin stated, “I wasn’t planning on having dirt fall on top of me!” Nekyo smirked, before giving her a wink. “I’m not gonna let you get away with that, Loupe! This one’s for my girlfriend!” He too jumped into the large pile, sending even more leaves up into the air. This time, Muffin was able to dodge the onslaught, and instead they fell on top of Shade and Sol. The sound of play fighting and laughing echoed throughout the entire lawn as more and more leaves were kicked skyward, littering the lawn they had worked so hard to clean up. “Not my problem!” Trixie exclaimed. “It’s not my mother we promised to clean up for. And I didn’t make the mess, either!” Sol scooped up a few leaves with his mermaid-like tail. “I don’t think Kit is gonna get mad about it. I mean…isn’t jumping into piles of leaves just one part of fall? We can always clean this up again.” “Yeah…but knowing those two…they won’t stop playing for a long time,” was her reply.

Blueberry heard her mother coming home and ran outside to meet her. Upon seeing the massive pumpkin Twisty was pushing…she let out a gasp! This thing was about the height of your average Kogrr, and twice as round. “Mom, do you need any help?” inquired the young Gryph. “I’ll be fine,” replied Twisty, pushing the pumpkin onto the porch. “Can you get your father and brother so we can carve this up?” With a nod, Blueberry went into the house. She found Coconut playing with some doll…I mean, action figures of Gryphs, mock fighting some Gnoll toys. Upon telling him about their mother’s amazing pumpkin, he let out an excited bark! That was enough to call their father from his study. Cream asked the pair, “What is going on out here?” “Mom brought back a gigantic pumpkin!” Coconut exclaimed. Blueberry added, “We’re going out to help her carve it.” Their father liked the idea, and went into the kitchen to get some knives. Of course, even he wasn’t prepared for the size of the object now sitting on their front porch. His cutting tool fell from his mouth as he stared slack jawed at the humongous gourd. Twisty walked over to her husband. “Well…how about we get this thing opened up to start.” She grabbed the knife in her mouth after instructing the children to help hold their prize steady. To start, she thrust the item deep in the pumpkin, quite near the top. Slowly but surely, Twisty cut around, until the top was completely loosened. She then removed the top, sitting it on its side near their wall. “Oh boy! Now we get to pull out the seeds and pulp!” Coconut cried out excitedly. Before anyone could blink, the young Gryph had climbed up on his hind legs, leaning against the pumpkin’s side. He placed his front paws on the very top where his mother had cut, before pulling his whole body up. Coconut stuck his face into the opening, grabbing at the seeds with his mouth… …and then, he fell face first right into the pumpkin! Twisty quickly jumped up herself and pulled her son out by the tail. Poor Coconut’s fur was now completely covered in pulp. He let out a low whimper. “I need a bath now…right?” the boy asked.

(this one is sadly turning on its side when I attach it...but at least you can see what's going on) A single leaf drifted down from the trees, landing on Kit’s snout. She sniffed fiercely, blowing it off into the wind once more. Both the warrior Lupine and her mate watched as it joined its fellows in their dance across the yard. “I love this time of year,” she whispered. “Me too,” Kuro replied. “It’s not too hot and not too cold. The winds are brisk but not biting. And just the look of the trees as they change color is a sight to behold.” Kit looked up at the tall chestnut tree above them. Its branches swayed as the breeze blew through them, as if even the leaves that had yet to begin their journey desired to dance. She leaned against Kuro, breathing in time with the winds that played with her fur. He added, “And of course…just spending time outside with you like this. I wouldn’t trade this for anything else in the world.” Those words caused Kit to giggle a bit, leaning in even closer. She could see a few more leaves begin to break free of their constraining branches, blowing over to the other side of the yard by another gust of wind. It was so peaceful in their little home… ‘I spent so much of my younger years battling Woltures, Gnolls, and all manner of threatening creatures. But now…I’m just happy to have retired from that life to live peacefully with my mate. We’ve raised two amazing pups, built a comfortable home. And I can only hope for many more years like this.’ Another leaf broke free, this one falling on Kuro’s snout. He let out a tiny laugh before blowing it off as his mate had done earlier. The winds picked up, blowing it over the walls and into the fields beyond their tranquil town.

Those are all great entries, Teefa! I wish my computer had been operational last week so I could have entered. (It's working just fine now, but I was moving the studio to a new room, so it was in pieces throughout the house.)

Thanks for the compliment. It took me a good portion of the contest time thinking up the themes.
