What is a stud/dam fee?
A stud fee is what we call an amount paid to you to use your gryph in a breeding.
What rules are there for stud fees?
They must be up-front. If you advertise your gryph, it should at least say there is a fee, even if it's variable. There are no price-caps, and rules regarding trade/sales apply.
Why charge a stud fee?
A stud fee is to compensate the owner for use of a breeding. Gryphs have limited numbers of breedings (refreshable for a cost) and the fee can help cover this. It can also be higher in cases of rarity to preserve bloodlines or simply the price that's worth it to the owner to breed it. Last, it can be a way to make a profit on good breeding, or time invested in the game.
Does a stud fee have to be cash?
NO!! Stud fees can be art, a trade, in some cases it can even be the ability to buy an egg from the breeding! It can be the choice of first pick, or a paid-for egg. Anything goes as long as all parties agree.
Do I have to charge one?
Nope! You can have your gryphs breed for free. However you want to play with your gryphs is up to you!
Does it have to be a flat rate?
Nope. It would be wise to be compensated per-egg given that every egg means that the bloodline is more common and thus less valuable in the future. You can also wave the fee for breedings you want to encourage. (example: maybe you charge for purebreeding but cross-breeds are free).
Can I charge third parties?
Absolutely.
I am advertising a stud and I do not want to breed with someone who contacted me.
You can say no. Be polite and direct, do not lead them on.
